After playing two successful exhibition games (11-4 and 13-3)
against the visiting Grande Prairie team last weekend Rams were
ready for the season opener against the Ft Sask Rebels April
27. The Rebels took the Rams by surprise by scoring first 18:44
of the first period. The Rams countered with a goal by first
year player David Phillips. The Rams then lost a little discipline
and penalties became a problem. The Rams took 9 penalties the
first period and gave the Rebels a great chance to capitalize.
The Rebels pulled ahead 3 - 1 in the first period.
The Rams came
out in the 2nd period much more focused, first year player Alex
Perkins scored 2 and Cale Allen nailed a single. At the end of
the 2nd the score was Rebels 5 Rams 4.
The team came out with
a desire to win and Veteran John Abella capped two goals and
returning player Andy Herbert nailed two. Rams ahead 8 - 7 .
The excitement did not stop with less than two minutes left in
the third a penalty shot was called. As the player set up against
first year goalie A.J. Lissey the crowd was silent. The whisle
blew and the attacker made his move, the shot was made and A.J
made the great move of cutting off the angle giving the shooter
nothing to shoot at. As the shot hit the pole the team and crowds
cheered. Rams win 8 - 7.
This was a great game of lacosse by both teams with a very
exciting ending.

The Rams came
out of the gates with a vengeance scoring 4 goals in the first
Robert Biggar struck twice and Eric Fraser & Reese Montgomery.
The first period was strong on defense, the unit held off the
Wizards and they were unable to score.
Once again the team struggled with penalties in the 2nd period.
The lack of focus sent eight players to the box. The Wizards
took the opportunity to cap 2 goals. The only goal score in the
2nd was by Eric Fraser making the score 5- 2 at the end of the
2nd period.
The third was a draw with both teams scoring twice. For the
Rams Robert Biggar got a hat trick in the game and Scott Elkow
sealed the win.
Another great game of lacrosse with great plays by both teams.
The season is shaping up to be very exciting and the competition
will be great
The Rams are putting together a full roster this season that
should see improvements over 2005. Ian Easson has taken on the
coaching duties this year after serving as Assistant Coach last
season and inheirits a roster with some key veterans and exciting
rookies that will turn some heads in the RMLL's Tier II North
Division.
